What kind of shoes did pro atheletes use BEFORE the advent of modern athletic footwear, such as sneakers?

Like, before cleats and sneakers, did they just wear regular shoes? What about golf cleats, or Chuck Taylors in basketball? Just curious.

What kind of shoes did pro atheletes use BEFORE the advent of modern athletic footwear, such as sneakers?
If by modern athletic footware you mean the sneakers since the 1970s, the answer is:

Converse had a virtual monopoly on the athletic market till the 1970s. High school, college, and professional teams would use Converse Chuck Taylors to work out in.

US football and baseball players would use spiked shoes (this was before indoor turf) for play, though.

Of course basketball players would use Chucks in Black or White.

As for tennis (all levels), many players would use Keds or Converse%26#039;s Jack Purcell sneakers.

Other professional sports (e.g. racing, boating, etc.) would use a mixture of the above sneakers and a casual non-sneakers leather shoe.
Reply:Grape leaves, and twigs for shoelaces.
Reply:leather straps...
Reply:Spikes shoes.
